Now that we are at the end of the year, and the volume of festivals and submissions is at its lowest point of the year, it is a good time to start planning the beginning of 2018.
I have already published several posts about planning festival premieres and how to establish a selective strategy to take care of both the world premiere and the international and national premieres.
I have also dedicated some posts to various genres, such as documentary and animation, and to different types of festivals, such as science fiction, festivals for children and young audiences, virtual reality, medium-length films, debut films, etc.
A different festival list
Now I have decided to publish a different festival list, with a very heterogeneous character, but with two elements in common: they all have a January 2018 deadline and they are free festivals.
I have focused mainly on short films, both festivals and sections, separating the lists by running-time limit so that you can better match them to your film.
The document contains five different lists:
- Festivals that accept various running times, and therefore include short films.
- Festivals that accept short films up to 30 minutes.
- Festivals up to 25 minutes.
- Festivals up to 20 minutes.
- Festivals up to 15 minutes.
As you will see, they include only those from 15 minutes upwards, and in all cases they are festivals (or sections) with no submission fees, so there is no need to pay, unless you use submission platforms.
I have prepared these lists to help you if you are already in a more intensive distribution phase and do not have much budget. They are all grouped in PDF format and ordered by deadline, with the website, the submission platform, and the event dates.
In total there are around 86 festivals from different countries.
