At the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market, there is a visit I like to make to the CNC stand, the Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée (the equivalent of ICAA in Spain) to see the report they publish each year on French short film figures.
This report contains surprising data, especially when viewed from Spain, such as the €397,650 that French short films generated in cinemas in 2014, managed through the short film distribution program in cinemas carried out by L’Agence du Court métrage. This figure only represents 1.8% of funding in 2014.
According to the same report, the largest percentage of funding is provided by the CNC itself with 55%, a total of €12,240,855, followed by regional, provincial and local aid, with approximately €4,324,920, representing 19.5%, a similar percentage is contributed by television with 19.1%, approximately €4,232,790. Funding is completed with other aid from public administrations, with €37,280, 0.2% and private organizations (mainly rights management entities) with 4.2%, approximately €932,050. In total, French short films in 2014 obtained approximately €22,165,545 from different funding sources, and 597 short films were produced in 2014.
This report is now available online, through the CNC website: http://www.cnc.fr/web/fr/publications/-/ressources/1766859
