This week we are presenting the 12th edition of Madrid en corto and today we have launched the new website with the 2016 selection: www.madridencorto.es
Madrid en corto is the short film distribution catalog of the Community of Madrid, which was established in 2005. Short films that have received a project grant the previous year may be included in the catalog. The awards are presented at the closing of the Community of Madrid Short Film Week, which took place in May.
During these 11 years we have distributed 74 short films (not counting the new additions), and we could say that the project has been a complete success, with 7,397 festival selections and no less than 1,529 awards accumulated during all this time.
There are three main keys to consider in the festival strategy that we carry out during the first months:
- The short films have already had their national premiere (at the Community of Madrid Short Film Week), therefore we rule out premiere festivals in Spain, and we try to cover a greater number of national festivals.
- We take care of those short films that are pending their international premiere, and we submit them to festivals where this is required or valued, such as Locarno or Toronto.
- From here we take into account the national premiere by country, especially in those festivals that are on the Oscars list, and with which we have a closer relationship, you can see this list in this other post.
In total we usually submit each short film to around 600 festivals in one year.
The international presence is one of the strong points of Madrid en corto. Over these years we have participated in a total of 86 different countries.
To summarize the international presence I have created this interactive graphic with the total presence by country, to see the totals you just need to move the mouse over each country.
The 10 countries with the highest number of selections are: Italy, United States, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Mexico, Portugal, Poland, Argentina and Brazil.
The presentation and screening of the short films will take place at the Círculo de Bellas Artes Cinema at 7:30 PM, and will include the presence of the directors, the second screening will take place on Saturday the 11th at 12:00 PM at the Cineteca, as part of Notodo Weekend.
